Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri was a well-reputed and veteran commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy who dedicated a major portion of his life to advancing the country’s defense capabilities across the azure waters of the Persian Gulf. He was recognized as one of the primary architects of asymmetric naval defense strategies, and during his tenure of command, through prudent measures, established effective deterrence against the maneuvers of foreign fleets. His tireless efforts to equip the IRGC Navy with advanced vessels and long-range missiles made him a respected figure at the national level and a nightmare for the adversaries of regional security.
During the events known as the “Ramadan War,” which involved widespread and joint strikes by the United States and the Zionist regime, he was severely wounded by enemy airstrikes on the battlefield while directing defensive operations, and after a short period attained the high status of martyrdom. His martyrdom had widespread resonance across the political and military landscape of the country, and the body of this proud commander, following magnificent funeral processions in Bandar Abbas and Tehran, was laid to rest in his birthplace at the Abadan Martyrs’ Cemetery to remain forever in memory as a symbol of Iran’s maritime resistance.
